CAT 2000QA Question 28

Even / Odd FunctionsEasy
Passage / Data

Given below are three graphs made up of straight-line segments shown as thick lines. In each case choose the answer as

1. if f(x) = 3 f(–x);

2. if f(x) = –f(–x);

3. if f(x) = f(–x); and

4. if 3 f(x) = 6 f(–x), for x ≥ 0.

Answer & solution

  • A

    1

  • B

    2

  • C

    3

  • 4

Solution

As per the given figure,

f(1) = 2,  f(−1) = 1

∴ (1), (2) and (3) cannot be correct choices.

 f(1) = 2f(−1)

i.e., 3 f(1) = 6 f(−1)

∴ 3f(x) = 6 f(−x)

Hence, option (d).
